Dorchester Habitat for Humanity and Thrivent Financial partner to improve the lives of Dorchester County families
Thrivent Financial renews national Habitat for Humanity partnership in 2015 with $12 million commitment
Dorchester Habitat for Humanity, SC (January 22, 2015) Dorchester Habitat for Humanity has been awarded $35,775 from Thrivent Financial to support the Thrivent Builds with Habitat for Humanity program, an ongoing multi-year, multi-million dollar partnership between Habitat for Humanity International and Thrivent Financial, which helps create safe, decent, affordable housing across the globe.
Locally, the program will fund the repair or construction of one Home in Summerville in 2015.
“It is inspiring to work alongside Habitat families, Thrivent members and others to build and repair homes,” said Kellie Collins, a financial representative with Thrivent Financial. “Sharing our time and talents helps us live generously and strengthen our community.”
Thrivent Financial is committing $12 million nationally to the 2015 partnership, which will be used to serve families and mobilize volunteers through three programs: Thrivent Builds Homes, Thrivent Builds Worldwide and Thrivent Builds Repairs.
- Thrivent Builds Homes focuses on improving communities by helping Habitat build homes in partnership with low-income families. In the local area, 1 Thrivent Builds Home will be built this year.
- Thrivent Builds Repairs provides for the repair of existing homes in partnership with families who don’t have the resources or ability to make the repairs themselves.
- Thrivent Builds Worldwide allows Thrivent members and others to give financially and volunteer their time as they travel to international or domestic locations for a week or more at a time to build Habitat homes and experience other cultures.
Since the national partnership’s inception in 2005, Thrivent Financial and its members have now committed $213 million and 4.4 million volunteer hours around the world.
“Dorchester Habitat for Humanity is extremely grateful to Thrivent Financial and its members for their continued support of Dorchester Habitat for Humanity,” said Jaye Elliott, Executive Director of Dorchester Habitat for Humanity. “Because of this generosity, more families will have a safe, affordable place to call home.”
Thrivent Financial remains the largest non-governmental supporter of Habitat for Humanity International.
