Bob Barnett passed away on Sunday, May 29th, unexpectedly at church. He will be greatly missed by friends, family, and his community here in Summerville. “Bob the Builder” was Dorchester Habitat for Humanity’s construction manager for 12 years. President and CEO Jaye Elliott shares about him:

“I remember Bob for his strong faith in God and dedication to helping others in need. Bob worked tirelessly to fulfill Dorchester Habitat for Humanity’s Mission of “Putting God’s Love Into Action By Bringing People Together Building Homes and Hope.” Bob made everyone on our construction sites feel like they were on a mission trip, no matter how close to home they were.”

Bob would host, direct and lead close to 600 volunteers each year at Dorchester Habitat on various build days. Women Build and coach each homeowner through the process of building their home. He would encourage them not to give up on their sweat equity hours and teach the basic principles of home building and maintenance. Bob was patient with all skill levels who came to the building site, including special education classes from local high schools, church groups, and corporate partners. Bob especially enjoyed working with our Faithful Few groups, which build every Thursday. This group of men and women had a special place in his heart for their dedication and commitment to building homes. Dorchester Habitat for Humanity staff, homeowners, and volunteers are deeply saddened by his passing but find joy in knowing he is in Heaven likely directing others in music, games, serving, and building projects.

Bob’s Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held at 6 pm on Friday, June 3rd, at the Hilton Garden Inn in Nexton.
